On Hearing the School Bus

It’s the first day of school and my seven year old son Easy and I were up. When we heard the school bus roll into town he told me his thoughts. I wrote them down as best I could and had the dictation approved by him. I really enjoyed his insight.

I don’t really want to go to school because then I can only learn about a limited amount of stuff. I like learning on my own cuz then I can learn what’s important to me. I like video games, I can learn new words, like charisma. I like to learn about guns and zombies. I have learned about about trees, lots of kinds of tools, how they work and what they do. I learn a bunch of math like 100+100 is 200 and 200+200 is 400. And 2+2 is 4. Its patterns.

I learned about my Xbox and my controllers and what they do and how they work. I have ideas on how to improve them. I have started to design games and thinking of cool games to make. Its going to be hard to learn the coding. And I want to make a challenging game.

I also very much like playing Nerf gun. When I first get a Nerf gun I learn about how it shoots, how the trigger functions, how you put in the bullets, and everything about the gun. I learned about each gun, like the Vulcan. I like to watch you tube videos to learn as much as I can about Nerf guns. I modify them and experiment with them. I also redesign the outside with paint pens.

Any 7-year-old who is using words like function, charisma, and patterns is doing just fine without the school bus, in my opinion. I liked hearing his comparison of learning between on his own and at school.
