Night Life — July 2010 Blog Carnival

This month we have several posts from unschooling bloggers about bed times, sleep, and nighttime fun. They are tales of adventure, informative pieces, personal stories and thoughts of perspective shifts.

Christine of Chrysalis shares her methods of parenting to sleep her first newborn and how that quickly morphed into less traditional ways. From cradle to co-sleeping, and how co-sleeping has enriched their whole families lives.

Darcel
of The Mahogany Way tells us a little about the questions you get as a mother of a newborn. As well as some details on what sleep looks like in her family. How they just let the evening flow like we do during the day.

Stephanie
of Four of Two has a humor filled post about the misconceptions of childhood bedtimes and the havoc they wrecked before she discovered another way. With the birth and sleep habits of her second child she discovered that sleep can happily happen another way. How she came to realize that not having arbitrary bedtimes doesn’t mean free-for-all, and making peace with herself.

Heather of Swiss Army Wife writes how they she has shifted her perspective from controlling sleep into embracing her children’s natural rhythms, learning to work with them rather than against them. She gives us some information on sleep disorders and how they link to forced or coerced sleep schedules. How her children are free to sleep when they are tired.

Stephanie of Learning Through Living offers us a glimpse into her families sleeping habits and how they have developed over the years, yet in ways remained constant.

Lauren of Sparkling Adventures writes about the intersection of a very-awake child with some grown-up activity, the special night fun in her family. She shares a few experiences from her own childhood about the wonders that her parents shared with her at night, the magic. Including a sweet tale of father/daughter late night adventure.

Lisa from Perpetual Joy writes about her families journey along the sleep road, listening to their hearts instead of traditional fears and fear based advice. Very sweet with Spider-man sheets!

Faith of Bearthmama writes a bit about secondary insomnia and the poor sleeping habits she developed through coerced sleeping. And a small peeked at a late night family tradition with her oldest.

Can’t wait to read all of these blogs.

Great stuff. Been lurking awhile, thought I’d register so I could share some links. Turns out even after registering that somehow I can’t add any. Instead of the “register” button at the bottom of Share Your Favorite Unschooling Links! there’s some “admin” button that takes me to a dashboard. Hmmm.

Please add for me a few of my favorite links I’ve come across recently:

    The Creativity Crisis http://www.newsweek.com/2010/07/10/the-creativity-crisis.html

Strong Enough to Be Ourselves http://lauragraceweldon.com/2010/07/13/strong-enough-to-be-ourselves/

    Calling Out the Buccaner-Scholars http://lauragraceweldon.com/2009/10/27/calling-out-the-buccaneer-scholars/

Actually, I’ve been reading both books related to those links: Secrets of a Buccaneer-Scholar by James Marcus Bach is one, Free Range Learning by Laura Grace Weldon is the other. Both simply kick ass. I’d recommend them too if you had a button for it.

Anyway, I’d love it if my registration actually worked and would love it if these links could be shared. I’ve gotten a lot out of this site, recommended it widely and would like to participate more.

    thanks,
    Grace
